The Sea Otter is the smallest of marine mammals and is classified as endangered by the IUCN Red List. Its survival is threatened by oil spills and other forms of pollution. This endearing, playful creature has the densest fur of any mammal with up to one million hairs per square inch of skin. Sadly, this made it a major target of the fur trade in the 1800s and, as a result, the Sea Otter was hunted to near extinction.
